The organic indie rock deliverers of harmony known as Ike As In Dwight will be releasing their new E.P. People of Nature, Nature of People digitally this week. The group will be posting the songs on their myspace here, Tuesday August 3rd. The entire E.P. will be available for download by donation or for free on the sewn together records website on August 5th. Also look for a review of the E.P. on Scenic Recovery in the days following the release.
The Chicago based one man outfit known as Lord of the Yum Yum will be infiltrating Roanoke on Tuesday 8/3 at the Bazaar. The mad man will be accompanied by Blind Photographers, yet another one person outfit filled with enough energy to convince you there’s an army of her. Closing up the night are Roanoke’s masters of shock and awe, the Bastards of Fate. The show starts at 8pm and will only cost you $5 for three incredible acts.
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week the Bazaar will be hosting yoga classes provided by the Yoga Nomad. Classes are donation based and will start at 11am each morning of the weekend and end at noon. This is a great opportunity for those who are curious about the practice and have not yet tried it. Fun for everyone!
On Friday, August 6th Nancy & 2 Meteors will be bringing Indiana indie rockers Rodeo Ruby Love to the Bazaar. This show starts at 9pm and will cost you $5. Come out to this one!
On Saturday August 7th the Shadowbox (located on Kirk Avenue, downtown) will be joining River Laker in hosting Trespassing: Photographs From Restricted Areas. Trespassing is collection of photos, videos and stories from Joseph Carneval, a self described “urban adventurer”. Carneval was ranked by TIME magazine as one of the Top 10 Guerrilla Artist of our generation. Joseph will be at the Shadowbox telling stories and sharing experiences. This event starts at 8pm.
The Roanoke duo known as Another Roadside Attraction will be bringing their own brand of vaudeville to the Bazaar on Saturday August 7th. Along with them will be Idaho based Faux Bois. This show will start at 9pm and will cost $5. Come out and see this duo, they are amazing and very fun to watch!

This weekend at the Shadowbox:
Tonight (Friday) the Shadowbox will show Spend An Evening With Saddle Creek. This is a documentary about the indie record label Saddle Creek. This label is known for putting out such artists as Cursive, Bright Eyes, Azure Ray, The Faint, Rilo Kiley and more. This showing starts at 8pm.
On Saturday (tomorrow) the Shadowbox will be showing Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. The cult classic will start at 8pm and is sponsored by Ride Solutions. Ride your bike to the event and get free popcorn!
Tonight and tomorrow The Bazzar offers up two great shows!
The first being tonight (Friday) with Chris Shutz & the Tourists (Philly) and Roanoke’s own Nancy & 2 Meteors. Show starts at 9pm and its $5!
Tomorrow night (Saturday) with Charlottesville’s Invisible Hand and Roanoke power duo Eternal Summers. This show starts at 9pm as well and costs $5!
Finally on Sunday at the Water Heater there is an event you don’t want to miss! Athens, Georgia pop two-some Grape Soda is coming to town! Opening for them will be Falcor, a new visual and musical solo project from The Sad Cobras own Jonathan Woods! If you are doing nothing with your Sunday you should be doing this instead! This show starts at 7:30pm with Falcor beginning around then. Make sure you get there on time! Bring $5 with you too!

This weekend The Shadowbox is partnering with the StoneWall Society to host a three day film festival geared toward Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgendered equality. The Pride In The Arts International GBLT Film Festival will be held June 25th – 27th and will feature five full-length films with a different short film and music video following each film. Starting the festival out will be Woman In A Man’s Suit, a documentary focusing on the life of musician Georgie Jessup. The musician will perform after the film which will be followed by an opening party meet and greet lasting until midnight. For advanced tickets to this festival event order here. The Toledo duo known as FANGS OUT will be playing the Bazaar this Thursday with our own Nancy & 2 Meteors. Nancy has some great new material so make sure to come out! $5 at the door!
This Friday (June 25th) the Roanoke Main Library located downtown on Jefferson Avenue will host martial artist and cult film star Anthony De Longis. Road House (starring Patrick Swayze) is the film De Longis is most recognized for playing a monster truck driving hench man with an attitude. He has worked with many strong names in Hollywood such as Harrison Ford, Jet Li, Tim Burton, Ron Howard, Michelle Pfiffer, Angelica Huston, Charleton Heston and of course, Patrick Swayze. This will be De Longis’ second trip to Roanoke. The first being his appearance at the Grandin Theatre’s midnight showing of The Last Dragon where he gave a very entertaining bull whip demonstration and signed autographs along side the film’s star Taimak. De Longis will demonstrate some of his skills outside of the Roanoke Main Library at 6pm. A brief Q & A is also offered for the evening.
In more Underground Melodies news, Blacksburg band Ike As In Dwight will be replacing The Young Sinclairs in the line up due to scheduling conflicts. This performance will be the band’s last show which is very sad to say. If you have not seen Ike As In Dwight this is your opportunity. Do not miss out! Also this will be 3AM Friday’s final show, so come out and show them your support! The Underground Melodies line up is as follows….

So, as you may already know, Eternal Summers are having their EP release show tonight at the Bazaar, and will be playing with Philly’s Reading Rainbow. Starts at 9:30, $5.
