Tonight (Sunday, 1/9) Studio Roanoke’s own Guerrilla Playhouse will host two bands of great caliber. Roanoke favorite the Circus Practice will be performing and along with them will be a new band making their debut on the scene. Death Newman (comprised of Guerrilla Playhouse founder Ben R. Williams, the Bastard’s Doug Shelor, the Browning Brothers’ Ryan Browning and former 3AM Friday members Bentley & Austin Alderman and Sam Clifton) are a super cluster of friends gathered together to form the area’s only Randy Newman cover band. This is a sight to behold! Starting at 8pm and costing $5.

On Wednesday (1/12) the Bastard’s of Fate will be performing with Austin, TX friends Love’s It! The Texas duo consists of Vaughn Walters of the Shake ‘Em Ups and Jenny Parrott of the Shotgun Party (a personal favorite of our’s). This will be a donation-based basement show on Roanoke Ave starting around 7pm and ending around 10pm. Come out to see a Roanoke band that will blow you away and a Texas  couple that will leave you smiling!

Friday (1/14) the Bazaar on Brandon Rd will host a Roanoke band coming back home after a two week venture away from home. Midair will be making this their second to last stop on their tour and playing with them will be Roanoke math rock band Nobles. Also playing is said to be Fine Linens although we are not for sure on that one. Either way this should be a fun show and its good to see the under 21 crowd making music and having something going on! This show starts at 8pm and costs $5.

Saturday (1/15) the Shadowbox on Kirk Ave downtown will host a Golden Girls sleepover party!!!! Starting at 8pm and running all night for 12 consecutive hours til 8am this is the Shadowbox’s way of saying “thank you for being a friend”. Be sure to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow. DID WE MENTION THERE WAS FREE CHEESECAKE?!?!?

Also on Saturday the 15th the Unicorn Stables Project: Studios & Gallery will host an exhibit entitled “Shrines & Other Things”. Over twenty artists will be showing pieces depicting their view of shrines through video, installation, sculpture, painting and poetry. There will be a projection show by Mateo Marquez and music spinning all throughout the evening. This opening starts at 8pm with poetry reading starting at 8:30pm. Admission is FREE.

There is a lot going on Saturday the 15th and the Bazaar is offering yet another choice with Roanoke punk/folk outfit Watershed Conspiracy. Opening the show will be Tallahassee, FL group Only Thieves. This show will start at 9pm, $5. Come out to hoot and holler!

On Friday (Jan. 7th) the Shadowbox on Kirk Ave. downtown will show a documentary this blogger is very excited about. Marwencol is a film documenting the life of a man with a battered memory after being beaten to the point of near death. He chooses to recreate moments of his life through a small town he built and designed himself with a cast of characters he has based around the real people in his life. Although he lives in the present he lives out his new life in World War 2 Germany. Starting at 8pm you should not miss this film!

On Saturday (Jan. 8th) the Bazaar on Brandon Rd. will host three great acts. Fine Linens will be playing with Williamsburg guests Goodwill Falcon and Lynchburg band Rugby. This show starts at 9pm and will cost you only $5!

Have a good week everyone and we’ll see you here same time next week!
